Breakfast Strata with Sauté Blend
Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes (plus 8 hours or overnight)
Serves: 6-8
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (plus additional for the casserole dish)
- 1 large onion - chopped
- 1 pound ground turkey sausage
- 1 (9oz) package Simple Beginnings Sauté Blend
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 8 cups crusty bread (one inch cubes). I used a dark seeded loaf, but you can use any type.
- 2 cups baby Swiss cheese - grated
- 1 cup parmesan cheese - grated
- 9 large eggs
- 2 3/4 cups milk
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
Directions:
- Melt butter in a large skillet. Add the onion and sauté for approximately 5 minutes. Add the sausage meat and cook until it is no longer pink. Rough chop the cooking greens and add to the sausage mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for another 4 to 5 minutes.
- Build the strata: Butter the inside of a large casserole dish. Layer in a third of the bread cubes, top with a third of the sausage and greens mixture and top with a third of both cheeses. Repeat two additional times, ending with the cheeses.
- In a large bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, nutmeg and Dijon mustard. Pour egg mixture over the strata and cover with plastic wrap. Chill overnight in the refrigerator or at least 8 hours.
- In the morning, let the strata sit at room temperature while the oven preheats to 350 degrees F. Bake uncovered for 50-55 minutes and until browned.
A delicious way to begin any day!
